Schooled in Precarity: Architecture and the Subject of Education
The marketisation of education is not only a matter of its financial valorisation. It is also a matter of making students subject(s) to and for the market in their dispositions, outlook and behaviour. The new models and spaces of education aim to school their subjects for a life of opportunistic networking and enterprise underwritten by the emergence of precarity as a generalised mode of existential operation. This lecture will explore neoliberalism as mode of spatial governance within education, and analyse the architectural production of the new spaces which complement its project.
